Kamalnagar (Bidar district): The Kamalnagar police have arrested four people on charges of slaughtering a cow at a shed on Rampur road on the outskirts of the town on Sunday. The police rescued four calves and sent them to goshala.

Following a tip-off, the police rushed to the shed and arrested four people for slaughtering a cow, Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti told DH.

Condemning the incident, BJP workers and the activists of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad staged a protest in the town. All shops and business establishments in the town were forcibly closed. The agitators expressed their anguish by burning tyres on the roads and raising slogans against the government. The mortal remains of the cow were then taken in a procession in the town before being buried.

Cow smugglers flee

At Gurusunagi village in Vadagera taluk of Yadgir district, cow smugglers took to heels when a group of Bajrang Dal activists rushed to a shed, where several counts of cattle were being slaughtered. The activists found beef, horns and hide at the spot. It is said more than 20 cows were slaughtered. The activists rescued two cows. Vadagera SI Mehboob Ali visited the spot and conducted a mahazar. A case has been registered at Vadagera police station.
