Four passengers, including two women, were killed, and 22 others injured as a tourist bus hit a boulder near Gudalur in Tamil Nadu on Saturday night.

Ravikumara Nayak (28) of Siddahalli in Doddaballapur taluk, Sudha (40) of Doddaballapura, Lakshmi (37) of Bengaluru, and Ganesh of Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru are the deceased.

The bus was coming from Ooty and the accident occurred when the driver made an attempt to overtake another bus at a curve in the ghat section.

According to Naduvattam police, rash and negligent driving caused the accident. The police said, the drivers of the bus was overspeeding in a bid to cross Torapalli check-post within 9 pm-deadline as the movement of the vehicles post-9 pm.

The injured persons are undergoing treatment at KR Hospital in Mysuru.
