He was speaking after a meeting with elected representatives from Chikkamagaluru district and also religious leaders to discuss the issue as the government has to submit documents as the Supreme Court has directed the state government to submit its opinion before March 24.

“Our government has decided to solve this issue permanently and we will not drag it. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure peace and harmony,” Parameshwara said.

Parameshwara said the confusions were created after 1975.

“The government has put a lot of effort into solving the issue. A petition has been filed and the government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee. We are also planning for a Cabinet Sub-committee meeting in the coming week to discuss the issue,” Parameshwara stated.

In Friday’s meeting, the government collected opinions and documents from representatives and religious leaders of Chikkamagaluru district and they will be placed before the Cabinet Sub-committee for further discussion.

Speaking after the meeting, BJP MLC and former Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi said, “It is clear in the revenue documents that the Datta Peetha and the Dargah are different.”

“We have asked the government to study the records available with the departments concerned and decide on it. We have also demanded the restoration of encroachment of Datta Peetha property in the name of god Dattatreya and shift the Dargah to its property,” Ravi said.
