Journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was hot dead on September 5, has been posthumously honoured with the annual Anna Politkovskaya award.

The award is given every year by Reach All Women in War (the RAW in WAR) in memory of Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist who was murdered in Moscow while reporting on Chechnya war in 2006.

Gauri’s sister Kavita Lankesh said it was for the first time an Indian has been honoured with the prestigious Anna Politkovskaya award.

Gauri’s mother Indira Lankesh broke down at the press conference remembering her daughter. Indira said she was happy to know that Gauri has so many well wishers.

Meanwhile, Gauri’s brother Indrajit Lankesh said it was not proper to come to a conclusion about the culprits just on the basis of the weapon used in the murder. “We have come to know that there is a similarity in the weapon used in the killings of Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar, Prof M M Kalburgi and Gauri. However, it doesn’t establishes that a same person or an organisation has killed all the four. The investigation is still under progress and we are hopeful that the SIT will make some progress,’’ he said.

Indira, Kavita and Indrajit expressed full confidence in the ongoing investigation by the SIT.
