Members of the Zilla Krishi Kooli Karmikara Sangha staged a protest on Thursday and urged the government to implement their demands including allowing transportation of labourers to work sites in goods vehicles.

The labourers took out a protest rally to Azad Park Circle and later held staged a protest at the spot. They raised slogans, demanded that the government provide job to the unemployed youth.

They, meanwhile, pointed out that there are no good roads connecting coffee plantations in the district.

Mud roads

“The passenger vehicles could not ply on the mud roads. There is no option but to travel to the work site in goods vehicles. Therefore, the state government should request courts to reconsider its order which bans the transportation of labourers in goods vehicles,” said the protestors.

“Proper irrigation facilities should be provided in the plane region of the district. Also, measures should be taken to create more jobs for people by setting up industries and to prevent the migration of labourers,” the workers demanded.

‘Since 2008’

Zilla Krishi Kooli Karmikara Sangha honorary president S Vijayakumar said that protests are being carried out since 2008, urging to allow the plying of labourers in goods transportation vehicles.

Association president Manjunath, vice president Vijayakumar, secretary Arun, treasurer Mallaiah, members Chandru, Kumar and CPI leader H M Renukaradhya took part in the protest.
