CPI District Secretary H M Renukaradhya has urged authorities to give priority to Karagada drinking water project, which envisages filling water into the lakes in the plateau region.

He said that there is deficit rain in the plateau region. The groundwater table has also declined and farmers are in distress. The authorities should complete the project to fill Ayyanakere and Madagada Kere. Coffee, pepper are the main commercial crops grown in Malnad. The inclement weather had led to the loss of crops. The coffee growers and labourers are in distress. The Centre should intervene and come to the rescue of growers, he demanded.

Stating that applications submitted under 94 c for regularising the land are not being cleared, he said that the officials should initiate measures to distribute title deeds.
