Global tender floated to import coal, says DKS

In a bid to mitigate coal shortage for the thermal stations, the state government has floated global tenders for the import of the fossil fuel, said Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the minister said, “Thermal power stations in the state are facing acute shortage of coal as the Centre has failed to supply the required quantity. Because of which, power generation in the thermal plants has come down drastically.

“If the situation continues, the state may face acute power shortage in December. The state has no option but to import the fossil fuel. Power generation.”

“The state government is providing subsidised power to about 40% of farmers. The farmers should use it judiciously, Shivakumar said.
