Speaking after hoisting the flag at the 64th Independence Day celebrations here at Fort premises on Sunday, he said: “We have to remember all those who laid down their lives for Indian independence.”
The Kannadigas have also played a role in freedom struggle. The people of Kodagu were always patriotic. It was Padyanda Belliappa who started Kodagu patrike in 1921 and created awareness among people. We have to remember C M Poonaccha, Kodandare Puttaiah, Kodanda Appayya, C S Venkappaiag, Gundugutti Manjunathaiah, M M Siddiq, H R Krishnaiah, Kollimada Karumbaiah, Jammada Madaiah, Mallangada Changappa, Hajamara Madaiah, Bidarur Madegowda from the district.
“Our freedom struggle is a model for the entire world,” he added.
The Karnataka government is committed to the development of Kodagu. Through revenue department, honourarium for 7,563 disabled, widow pension for 9,748, honourarium to 12,530 aged persons, Sandhya Suraksha to 9577 persons are being distributed.
The Minister said that under Madilu yojane, 2,593 kits have been distributed. About 4,932 girl children have been included in Bhagyalakshmi yojane in the district. Free bicycles have been distributed to 7,099 students. Under Vidharbha package, beneficiaries have received 1,079 cattle. About 10.355 acre land had been developed under Sujala-2 yojane in the district, he added.

Thangadagi said synthetic athletic track is being laid at Koodige Sports SChool at a cost of Rs 285 lakh.
A sum of Rs one crore had been utilised to provide basic amenities in the tourists spots in the district. The action plan of Rs 2.20 crore had been okayed by the government to provide basic facilities to the agriculture markets.
