Raising the issue N Sampangi (Cong) said people, especially the poor, were facing hardship at Tirupati.
Devotees from the State are treated badly despite the State having contributed so much to the temple including the then maharajas of the erstwhile Mysore State who had donated jewellery worth crores of rupees, he added.
He said securing a guest room at Tirupati is very difficult and the facilities are poor too. All rooms are infested with bed bugs and cockroaches, he added. Sampangi was supported by members of both the ruling and the Opposition parties.
Replying to this, Minister for Muzarai V S Acharya said the government has already started the construction of a new multi-storeyed guest house at Tirupati. The guest house will be ready by April 2011.
The State government has said it is donating Rs 10 crore to Raghavendra Swamy mutt in Mantralaya, Rs 2 crore to Jagadguru Panditaradya Seva Samiti, Rs 1 crore to Aralmegu Sri Devanathaswami Lakshmi Hayagriva temple and Rs 2.70 lakh to Kalikamba temple.
