Director of the Department for the Empowerment of Differently abled and Senior Citizens Jayavibhava Swamy has said that the government will pay a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 to bride or groom who would come forward to marry a physically challenged person. 

Speaking at a workshop for rural rehabilitation and multipurpose volunteers organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat and women and child welfare department in Chikmagalur on Tuesday, he said that Rs 2,000 will be given for appointing an assistant to take care of a disabled women during and after her pregnancy for two years. 

The government has also implemented a scheme to provide training and employment to the physically challenged persons through job fair. The project will be implemented by Enable India institute. The officials from the institute will visit districts every month and will impart training to the disabled for 15 days. 

The government will bear the expenditure of the physically challenged students who continue their studies after SSLC. The government has chalked out different programmes for the welfare of the disabled. The volunteers should create an awareness on the same in rural areas. 

Deputy Commissioner B S Shekarappa said that the district administration will respond to the woes of the physically challenged. 

Asha Kirana School for Blind President Dr J P Krishne Gowda said that disability is not a curse. The differently abled persons should develop self confidence to carry on in life. The welfare programmes initiated by the government should reach them. 

Website of the school was launched on the occasion. Zilla Panchayat in charge Chief Executive Officer G L Vittal, women and child welfare department deputy director H J Chandrashekaraiah and others were present.
