There is no proposal before the state government to take over the Gokarna temple or Udupi Ashta Mutts, Muzrai Minister Prakash B Hukkeri informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

In a written reply to V Sunil Kumar (BJP), the minister said the Gokarna and Udupi Sri Krishna temple under the Muzrai department were denotified as per the Section 23 of Karnataka Hindu Religious Institution and Charitable Endowment Act 1997.

He said the state government can take over temples which are not in the notified list only if there are complaints of misuse of property and irregularities after conducting an appropriate inquiry to ascertain the validity of the charges.
