Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said his government was examining the possibility of filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa in corruption cases.
Siddaramaiah’s statement comes just when BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa has just begun fresh innings in his party.
“We are examining it (possibility of filing an appeal), and an appropriate decision will be taken after obtaining the Law department’s opinion,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar organised on B R Ambedkar by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
Yeddyurappa, who was recently appointed as the State BJP president, had got relief from the Karnataka High Court on various cases of corruption against him.
In January this year, the HC quashed the proceedings against him in relation to 15 FIRs registered by the Lokayukta police over denotification of BDA-acquired lands.
Further, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said some private individuals had recently approached his department and urged to file an appeal in the apex court against the HC orders. But the government has not taken any decision in this regard, he added.
He said some private individuals had filed cases against Yeddyurappa. Some of them were criminal cases. The HC has dismissed many of these cases on technical grounds.
“We (the government) cannot do anything if those individuals file an appeal in the Supreme Court,” he stated.
