Development of State Highways seems to be the latest among the goodies doled out by the Karnataka government, in view of the Assembly elections.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Public Works Department Minister C M Udasi said that the department had got administrative approval for the upkeep of 7292.57 km of roads in the State.
Core road network
The idea is to develop the core road network connecting districts and taluks.
In the first phase, 3710.41 km of roads will be improved at an estimated cost of Rs 1422.98 crore.
The minister said that a target has been set to improve 1,000 km of roads by 2013.
In the second phase, the department has proposed to improve 3582.16 km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 1383.36 crore, he added.
