The annual Vairamudi Utsav was celebrated with religious grandeur at Melkote, Mandya district on Sunday evening. Thousands of devotees took part in the festival to have a glimpse of the deity adorned with the diamond-studded crown (Vairamudi), which was taken out in a procession on the main streets of the town.

The crown and other jewellery, which were brought from the District Treasury in Mandya to Melkote, as part of the festival, was returned to the treasury after being inspected in the presence of Assistant Commissioner, on Monday morning. The ornaments were taken amid tight security with a team of officials, led by Pandavapura Assistant Commissioner Shylaja.

The deity Cheluvanarayanaswamy would be decorated with Rajamudi, donated by the erstwhile king of Mysuru Raja Wadiyar, up to March 22. The Brahma Rathotsava will be held on March 20.
