He was delivering a lecture on ‘Green Technologies’ organised by department of environmental science, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, recently.

Elaborating on the factors contributing to energy crisis, he said they have affected both the common man and environment. While common man is affected on the economic front, growing demand for energy has increased carbon levels in the environment — leading to a rise in global temperature. These effects coupled with India’s own expected consumption of energy around 1,73,626.40 megawatt has necessitated the use of renewable energy resources to tackle the crisis opined Shamsundar.

Defining Green technologies as technology adopted to tap the energy out of sustainable and eco-friendly resources like solar, wind, tides, bio-energy, roof-top rain-water harvesting system, etc, he urged for an extensive use of such alternative resources citing examples of effective use of solar technology in Germany and a solar energy cooking system at Mount Abu which is used to feed 10,000 people every day. He also pointed out that Devaraja market in the city alone produces tonnes of organic waste which can be used to produce bio-energy.

He called upon the student gathering to initiate green technologies on a small scale at the home front and said CREST organises camps to educate people about green technologies.
Principal K V Prabhakara, head of the department of environmental science Ashwini, Sunitha and faculty were present on the occasion.
