A controversy erupted in the Legislative Assembly during the ongoing winter session in Belagavi, when Ashoka was speaking about the recent maternal deaths in Ballari.
Speaking on the issue, he claimed that as per newspaper reports, 50 per cent women were not coming to government hospitals for deliveries.
Taking exception to this, Konaraddi - the Navalgund MLA - questioned Ashoka about his negative comments about government hospitals.
“What message does it give? Everyone will go to private hospitals. Will government hospitals survive?”
‘Not right to condemn’
Responding to this, the Law minister criticised Konaraddi.
“The LoP has spoken about the reality of government hospitals. It’s not right to say that government hospitals cannot be condemned. Yesterday I heard Dinesh Gundu Rao speak in the Council. He has spoken even more harshly than Ashoka. They are not mixing politics with this, let us also not do it.”
