Sources in the University said that Prof Thippeswamy will be given one week time to explain why disciplinary action can not be taken against him.

It may be recalled that two Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) at Mangalore University had quit their research projects, accusing Prof Thippeswamy in the biosciences department of sexual harassment.

The research scholars — one from Delhi and the other from Mangalore — had sent their complaints to Governor and Chancellor H R Bhardwaj and Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankar Murthy.

BBM scam

The Senate meet also resolved to appoint a legal expert to look into the manipulation taken place in BBM examinations in November 2008, in which a lecturer was involved. It may be recalled that the University authorities had randomly checked the BBM results of 10 colleges and detected cases of manipulation. University sources said that a special Senate meeting will be conveyed within 15 days in which a decision will be taken regarding the future course of action against the professor and lecturer.
