The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the KC Valley project on the ground that it is affecting the health of local people as the untreated water is polluting the ground water.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari adjourned the case by two weeks after the state government sought more time to submit a detailed report with regard to the water quality of areas in question that include Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts.

The petitioners’ advocate submitted that Narasapur Grama Panchayat had issued pamphlets asking people not to use water from borewells in the said districts.

The court further asked the state government regarding its investment amounting to Rs 1,300 crores in the project and orally observed that it should not adopt a trial and error approach for the same as it affects the lives of residents.

The court adjourned the case to September 11.
