'HC judge' who had cheated tahsildar arrested

A man disguised as judge who had threatened tahsildar of Mysore taluk Naveen Joseph, was arrested by Vidyaranyapuram police, on Friday.

M B Shankar, 40 years, resident of Mahadevapura on Manandavadi Road is the accused. The incident dates back to September 26, 2012 when Shankar called the tahsildar over phone introducing himself as a high court judge.

In his complaint to the police, the tahsildar had alleged that Shankar had taken him to task, for not issuing a caste certificate. The following day, the tahsildar went to the guest house only to learn that there was no judge by the name.

Shankar was wanted in a cheque bounce case following the warrant issued by a court. He has had secured a private loan of Rs 1.25 lakh only to renege on paying it back. The cheque issued to the party had bounced. When the police reached him on Friday, he also admitted to having taken the tahsildar on a ride.

The tahsildar who had traced the cellphone number to Mahadevapura, besides collecting the details of owner at that time, had given the same to police. The police were closely monitoring the movements of Shankar, but missed nabbing him on many occasions.

Publicity materials gutted

Properties worth Rs two lakh were gutted in an accidental fire at the godown of publicity material making unit at Panchagavi Mutt, near the foothills of Chamundi Hills on Friday.

The godown belonging to Guruprasanna caught fire around 6 pm ruining publicity materials like flex boards and banner, it is learnt. Though the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, it is believed that a portion of the godown was also used for cooking purpose by the workers.

Three attacked by bees

Three pedestrians were stung by a swarm of bees following the attack of honeybees on the busy JLB road in Mysore on Friday.

The incident occurred in front of a mall on the road when the earth moving vehicle belonging to the  city corporation was removing the pavement in front of the mall.

The vehicle accidentally touched the honeycomb disturbing the beehive. The victims were identified as Syed, Shahjahan and Nagamma. They were treated at K R Hospital.
