The High Court of Karnataka has issued a notice to the state government for filing a false complaint and charge sheet against a landlord.
Hearing a petition filed by Ashwatha Narayana Reddy, Justice K N Phaneendra stayed the proceedings in the trial court against him.
The Hennur police had filed a complaint against Reddy, accusing him of letting his premises to foreign nationals whose visa had expired.
Reddy, however, contended that the foreign nationals were not his tenants and were only visiting their friends who were his tenants. He also said he had verified the details of his tenants.
He also argued that the police do not have any authority under the Foreigners Act,1946, to investigate these matters. The matter was adjourned until November 22.
