Mangaluru: A team from the Health department conducted inspections at several medical laboratories across the city on Saturday, uncovering violations related to licensing and biomedical waste management.
The inspections, held primarily in the Hampankatta area, revealed that several labs were operating with expired licenses and failing to adhere to prescribed operational guidelines.
Authorities also found that proper procedures for biomedical waste disposal were not being followed. Notices have been served to these labs for non-compliance.
In one major action, a laboratory in Deralakatte was sealed after it was found to be functioning without any valid documentation. The lab had previously been served a notice instructing it to obtain the necessary licenses, but had continued operations without compliance.
The inspection team included District Health Officer Dr Thimmaiah, along with Health Department officials Dr Deepa Prabhu and Dr Chirag, among others.
