Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairman Justice S R Nayak has called for public participation in checking the use of plastic.

Unbridled use of plastic has proved hazardous to environment. The use of this material could be minimised only through individual as well as collective efforts. “The menace could effectively be checked if people and elected representatives join hands with the State,” he said, after inaugurating Smart Fitness centre here on Friday.

Exercise regimen

Emphasising on the need for physical exercise Justice Nayak said that that one could lead a healthy life with regular exercise. People in the earlier days used to sweat out in fields and consume healthy food and thus had a healthy lifestyle. However, with the lapse of time, environment has become polluted and a regular exercise regimen ensures a healthy life.  Human beings cannot enjoy fundamental rights if they fail to maintain good health. The present young generation may have to pay a heavy price for any laxity in conserving environment. Destruction of environment for selfishness will take the mankind on the path of annihilation, he noted.  State president of Karnataka Human Rights Council Vivekananda, secretary Amar Singh, and others were present.
