Heavy rain lashed parts of Karnataka on Tuesday bringing much-needed respite from sweltering heat.

Showers accompanied by heavy winds brought down the mercury level in Bellary.

Maximum temperature hovered at 41 degrees Celsius in Bellary for the past one week. Gusty winds blew up tin sheets and chairs at the pandal erected for the election meeting of BJP National President Rajnath Singh scheduled for Wednesday.

Thundershowers lashed various parts of Dakshina Kannada district also. An 83-year-old woman was killed in Ullal after a coconut tree crashed on her. Mangalore, Bantwal, Vittal, Puttur, Sullia and Subrahmanya received rainfall for an hour. Parts of Shimoga district experienced moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning for 30 minutes.
