Heavy rains lash Yadgir town, Bagalkot dist

The Yadgir taluk continued to receive heavy rains for the second day on Monday, disrupting normal life.

A majority of the water bodies in the taluk are full to the brim and a bridge constructed between Hattigodura and Bommanahalli villages was washed away affecting the movement of vehicles on the State Highway. The vehicles bound for Surpur, Hyderabad, Yadgir had to travel via Shapur. The students in several villages were unable to reach their schools and colleges as the movement of buses had come to a halt. The temporary road constructed during the work in the bridge, too has been washed away. Shahpur taluk recorded a rainfall of 40 mm on Sunday.

Several parts of Bagalkot district too received copious rains. Hungund, Ilkal and Kudalasangama received heavy rains towards the evening. The downpour has filled a majority of ponds and tanks in the district. Water gushed into low-lying houses and fields.

Rains gained momentum in Karwar of Uttara Kannada district also. The rains, which started on Sunday evening lashed Karwar town for 12 hours. Water gushed into around five houses. There was drizzling in Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, Haliyal, Dandeli and Mundagod.
