According to the affidavit of her assets and liabilities filed with the Returning Officer on Monday, Hema Malini (62), the BJP’s nominee for the RS by-poll, has passed matriculation. The 71-year-old Marulasiddappa, son-in-law of Dr G S Shivarudrappa, is an MA from Mysore University.
The actor, a talented classical dancer, has jewellery worth Rs 1.39 crore. It includes about 4.74 kg of gold, 25 kg of silver and 116.86 carats of diamond. Dharmendra owns jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh, that includes 500 gm of gold and five kg of silver.
The actress has four houses/apartments in different places but not in Karnataka. She possesses a house spread over 2,590 sqft and worth Rs four crore in Chennai, besides a house valued at Rs 1.3 crore in Goregaon, a flat worth Rs 7.5 crore and one more worth Rs 23 crore, all in Mumbai.
Dharmendra owns two residential properties - one is worth Rs 7.50 crore and another Rs 32 crore. Hema Malini owns properties worth Rs 63.67 crore and her husband possesses properties worth Rs 47.45 crore. She has four 4-wheelers, including a Mercedes benz, Toyota Innova. Dharmendra has a Range Rover and a Maruthi 800.
Marulasiddappa is known for his writings on theatre and current political issues. He worked as chairman of Karnataka Nataka Academy and has penned several books on theatre. He actively participates in debates on current issues. According to his affidavit of assets and liabilities, he has cash of Rs 5.79 lakh, bank deposits of Rs 9.08 lakh and a house in JP Nagar in Bangalore which is worth Rs 1.25 crore. He has not filled up columns meant to declare details of jewellery and vehicles.
Back in 2006, Jananapeeth awardee U R Ananthamurthy had contested the Rajya Sabha election as an Independent candidate.
He lost to Rajeev Chandrashekar, who contested as an Independent supported by the BJP and the JD(S).
