Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, a 2011-batch IAS officer, took charge as the deputy commissioner of Udupi on Thursday.

She took charge from the outgoing Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.

Hephsiba was previously serving as Managing Director, Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Hubballi-Dharwad. This is Hephsiba’s first stint as the deputy commissioner of a district.

Later in the evening, a farewell programme was organised for Priyanka Mary Francis, who will be taking charge as director of the Tourism Department in Bengaluru.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Planning Officer Srinivas Rao recalled Priyanka’s stint as the deputy commissioner of Udupi for the last three years and four months as one of the best periods.

He said Priyanka took waste management issue as a challenge and implemented Solid, Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) project to achieve Swachh Udupi Mission and to make Udupi a garbage-free district.

“Today garbage collection takes place twice in a day in 21 gram panchayats and once in a week in 23 gram panchayats. About 990 tonnes of waste is converted into resource in the district.”

Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi said Priyanka had transformed several challenges before her into opportunities.

Ganesh Koraga, a leader from Koraga community, said Priyanka’s contribution towards Koraga community was noteworthy. “She personally paid attention for the betterment of Koraga community in the district.”
