The High Court of Karnataka has given permission for the controversial ‘Panktiseve’, during the Siddappaji jatra at Chikkallur in the district.

It is a custom for the devotees to serve non-vegetarian food on the fourth day of the festival to people visiting the temple.

Sheep, goat and fowls are brought by the devotees, which is cooked in the tents erected for the purpose, to serve it to the people in Panktiseve. This year, it will held on January 15.

As Vishwa Prani Kalyana Mandali had approached the court, citing violation of Animal Sacrifice Act, 1959, the high court on January 20, 2016, had directed the district administration to ban animal sacrifice at Chikkallur.

Siddappaji Parampare Rakshana Horata Samiti and other organisations approached the court again. The court has passed an interim order permitting ‘Panktiseve’, on Friday.
