Mudigere: Situation turned tense as members of Hindu outfits gathered in front of Banakal police station in Mudigere on Thursday and urged the police to initiate action against an alleged 'Love Jihad' in Mudigere.
A married woman from a village in Bankal police station limits had allegedly eloped with a man from another community from Kerala a few days ago.
Based on a complaint by the woman's husband, the police had traced the woman.
Knowing about the incident, the Hindu workers shouted slogans against the man with whom the lady had allegedly eloped with and tried to enter the station premises. As the police closed the gate, a heated argument took place between the police personnel and the people.
The Hindu workers registered their protest by blocking the National Highway in front of the station. The police later assured of speaking to the protestors in the police station.
The activists alleged that 'Love Jehad' is being carried out in Mudigere taluk and legal action should be initiated against the man who eloped with the married Hindu woman.
Police security has been tightened in the region following a tense situation.
