HIV among 'IT/BT employees' worries VC

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on care of HIV/Aids infected organised by the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Mysore unit here.

The VC said thousands of youths are working in IT/BT, BPO and call centres who do not give much importance on the  spread of this  dreaded disease. Need of the hour was to hold HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns not only in rural areas but also in urban centres.

Prof Rangappa said the whole world is suffering due to HIV/AIDs. According to an estimate, India has around 2.3 million HIV/AIDs in infected and it is spreading rapidly. The government and non-governmental organisations are jointly doing many things to create awareness.

Honorary president of FPAI, H R Umesh Aradhya was the chief guest. Rotary President K G Venkataram, Jilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal and G S Bhat were present. FPAI President Dr S N Hegde presided. Dr R S Umashankar also spoke.
