Mysuru/ Chamarajanagar/ Raichur: Security has been stepped up in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Raichur, after emails containing bomb threats were sent to senior government officials in all three districts on Friday.
The first such mail was sent to the Mysuru City Commissioner around 1:30am on Friday. It read: “We will plant bomb in different parts of Mysuru city. ALL the bombs will blast within 24 hours; hijbulmujahidin takes responsibility (sic).” With sniffer dogs in tow, anti-sabotage and bomb detection squads scoured Mysuru city. However, police found no suspicious packages in the city. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at the Nazarbad police station.
A bomb threat was sent to the Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner’s office around 7:10am, triggering panic. The mail was reportedly sent from the account of one Ajith Jakkamula, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the DC’s office.
The office was evacuated, while the bomb-disposal squad, along with the canine squad, was summoned to the spot. The police found no suspicious substances on the office premises.
Chamarajanagar Superintendent of Police B T Kavitha said that it appeared to be a hoax. “The Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police have registered a case,” she added.
The situation was not too different at the Raichur deputy commissioner’s office, which received a similar mail. Panic gripped the people at the new DC’s office after receiving the mail, written in Tamil, which warned of a bomb in the building.
Raichur superintendent of police was immediately intimated, and bomb-disposal squad rushed to the new DC office.
Once they were able to definitively conclude that there were no explosive materials on the premises, the police personnel left the place.
