Speaking to the mediapersons here on Friday, Nagarjuna Veerodhi Horata Samiti President Vijay Kumar Hedge said “the coal based thermal power plant is source for numerous problems. The cheap machineries and construction materials used for the project is proving to be hazardous. Lack of trained labourers in the site has added to the woes.”
Earlier, the work was assigned to TATA Consultancy Engineers. However, their demand for additional investment on the project, compelled Udupi Power Corporation limited (UPCL) to switch on to some cheap construction labourers.
As a result, most of the crucial civil works on the site like chimney, boiler room, cooling tower and water pipes are set up unscientifically,” he said.
He alleged that the company has not procured the consent for operation with respective departments involved.
“The water from Nagarjuna is damaging agriculture fields in and around the thermal plant. Clean coal technology is lacking in the project. The company has used low quality water inlet and outlet pipes,” he alleged.
He further alleged that electro static precipitator and desalination plant has not been incorporated in the plant.
