All pre-university colleges will remain closed on May 11 and 12, in view of the Assembly elections.
A circular by the department of pre-university education said all PU colleges would remain closed on these days as the lecturers would be deployed for election duty and some of the colleges would be used as polling booths.
Also, the department has issued a fresh circular notwithstanding the demands of PU lecturers to reschedule the calendar of events for this academic year. The circular mandates that all PU lecturers report to work on May 2, when the colleges reopen. The PU lecturers' association had sought that the colleges repoen late as lecturers would hardly have leave.
The Karnataka Civil Services Rules 106 (A) state that absenting from work would amount to dereliction of duty and the day's salary would be deducted.
