Mysuru: Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Mysore Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Moras said, the celebration of the ‘Holy Year - Jubilee 2025, of the birth of Jesus Christ will be inaugurated on December 29, at St Philomena's Cathedral in Mysuru.
Speaking to media persons, in Mysuru, on Thursday, Moras said, the Catholic Church celebrates the jubilee once in 25 years and the celebrations for the year 2025 will be launched on Sunday.
“Preparations have been made for the celebrations and several programmes will commence on December 29, covering the dioceses of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts,” according to Moras.
He said, “Pope Francis has declared 2025 as the Jubilee Year, during which various programmess will be conducted throughout the year, until January 6, 2026, under the theme 'Pilgrims of Hope’. In a world, badly affected by climate change and wars, efforts will be made to promote peace, to acknowledge the God's supreme authority, and to encourage justice and equality among the people”.
“A committee has been formed, to organise spiritual and social activities in all churches, institutions, and district headquarters, under the diocese. The programmes will be conducted under the guidance of the Apostolic Administrator,” stated chief priest of St Philomena's Cathedral Staney D’Almeda.
“A special cross will be carried in a procession to all churches under the diocese. It will be placed at St Philomena's Church at the end of year-long celebration, as a memorial of the Jubilee Year. It is believed that this cross will provide protection to the community. During this Holy Year, efforts will be made to help the poor, the sick, and the helpless,” Moras added.
Mysuru Diocese Chancellor Pakia Raj was present.
