Hopcoms will organise a vegetable mela at all its outlets in Bengaluru (and surrounding districts) from October 6 to 8.

Speaking to the media, in Bengaluru, on Thursday, Hopcoms President A S Chandregowda said that the vegetable mela was being held to meet the festive demand.

It was observed that the demand for vegetables was falling and the supply was more. The vegetable mela was being organised for customers to take advantage of the lower pricing, ahead of the festive season, he added.

The mela features 12 vegetables which would be sold at Rs 20 per kilogram. Five varieties of vegetables could be bought for Rs 100.

The vegetable varieties on offer are brinjal (purple and green), beetroot, pumpkin, cucumber, cabbage, raddish, bottlegourd, snakegourd, bittergourd, bhajji chilli and sambar onion.

Chandregowda also said that the produce would be procured from farmers at Rs 15 per kilogram.

The vegetable mela will be held at all 325 Hopcoms outlets and also at Lalbagh and Cubbon Park on all three days.

During the last festive mela, nearly Rs 15 lakh was earned from special sales. Hopcoms has 8,000 farmer partners in five districts of Karnataka.

B N Prasad, Managing Director, Hopcoms (Bengaluru) said that there had been a 30% wastage of produce, due to falling demand. The mela would help farmers earn profits and also exhaust their produce.
