Well, you can lay your doubts to rest now with the introduction of online weighing scale across all Hopcoms stores in Bangalore.

With the new weighing scales, the prices will be fixed by a centralised server everyday, and the local Hopcoms shop will have no means to alter it.

The system, launched across 100 Hopcoms shops in the City on Thursday, was introduced following complaints from customers.

Automatic pricing

The vegetable is first laid on the weighing scale. The shopkeeper enters the item code, and the machine computes the price automatically.

Hopcoms Managing Director S K Sreekanth said, “The prices will be updated over 3G networks everyday at 7:30 am. After that the system will be locked, and the prices cannot be changed until next morning.”

He said that the system of instant billing would be most useful when there is a heavy rush.

160 other outlets

Apart from the 100 outlets already using the technology, another 160 outlets are expected to have the same facility in the next six months.

The entire project has cost the Hopcoms an estimated Rs 40 lakh, which was provided under the Rashtriya Kisan Vikas Yojana.

The system also enables Hopcoms to monitor the performance of stores and also undertake stock management from the headquarters.

Hopcoms has also undertaken computerisation of warehouse activities so that they can be managed online from the headquarters.
