Chairman of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti on Tuesday expressed unhappiness as the government has not considered a person, nominated by him, to the Board of the University of Horticulture Sciences at Bagalkot.
BJP member Hanumant Nirani questioned the Minister for Horticulture S S Mallikarjun to reveal the reason why the appointment was not considered even eight months after he was nominated by Horatti.
“The person, who was nominated by the Legislative Assembly Speaker for the same university, has been accepted and he has started working. But why my nomination is not yet considered?” Horatti questioned.
The minister said, “The file is before the chief minister and I will verify it after discussing it with our colleagues.”
Horatti said, “I have made that appointment using the powers of the chairman of the House. Don’t tell me that you will discuss this with the chief minister and governor. You should issue an order once the chair has given the order.”
Horatti warned the minister of moving a breach of privilege motion against him.
“This is my power and I have appointed the person using my powers. If you don’t issue the order, I will move a breach of privilege motion,” warned Horatti.
He also informed the minister that the decision, taken by the chairman of the House, should be implemented without concurrence with anybody.
“Even after the appointment I have written two letters and informed over a call too. I am well aware that the chief minister will not ask and you are simply bringing his name,” Horatti said.
