Huge explosives haul in D'gereSeven arrested, one absconding

 As many as 40,500 electrical detonators, 40,000 special detonators, 3,800 gelatin sticks, 36 roll safety fuses and 58 roll detonating fuses were recovered during a raid at a warehouse near Alur cross, Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil told a press meet here on Monday.

A person by name Shanumukhappa has been arrested. The haul has been valued at Rs 5.50 lakh.

On the other hand, another team, during the raids conducted at four places in the vicinity of Harapanahalli town has recovered 1,300 kg of ammonium nitrate, 3 kg gun powder, 118 electrical detonators, 386 ordinary detonators, 108 gelatin sticks and three roll safety fuses, by arresting six persons. The value of the recovered explosives has been put at Rs 10.61 lakh.

Subramanya, Chandrappa, Ghouse Sab, Narayana, Jahangir and Mastan, all residents of Harapanahalli are the arrested, One more person, Salim Basha is absconding.

Explosives stocked in the guise of requirement for mining purposes have been sold to mining companies which have no permit. The Department is collecting information on supply of explosives for anti-social activities and the people involved in the activity.
Intelligence is being exchanged with officers of Mines and Geology Department.

Chickmagalur police have been requested to look into the possibility of supply of explosives to naxals. Further action on the recovered explosives will be taken only after they are examined by the bomb disposal squad, the SP said.

It may be recalled that explosives were recovered from a village near KRS in Mysore, recently.
