IISc asst prof bags Young Nano Scientist India Award

 Arindam Ghosh (in pic), an associate professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has been conferred the ‘Oxford Instruments Young Nano Scientist India Award 2015’ for his outstanding contribution to nano sciences.

The award was presented to Ghosh, who works at the Department of Physics, IISc, on Thursday at the Nanotechnology Forum 2015 held at the institute.

Presenting the award, Bharat Ratna C N R Rao urged the forum to increase the cash prize (currently Rs 2 lakh).

Further, the Nanotechnology Forum for Indian Scientists will organise lectures by Ghosh at foreign universities, according to an official note.

Ghosh completed his PhD at the IISc on ‘Metal insulator transition and Coulomb interaction effect in doped semiconductors’. He has also worked at the University of Cambridge as a post-doctoral researcher. He has been with the IISc as an associate professor since 2005. His research expertise lies in the subject of semiconductors.

Ghosh is also a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 2012 and is a member of the National Academy of Science, India.Nanotechnology Forum for Indian Scientists, formed in 2014, hosts the award with an objective to boost research in nano sciences in the country. This year, the forum received 43 nominations from researchers across the country.
