The CBI, which is investigating a case against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and his family members, is said to have procured transcripts of debates on illegal mining in the Legislative Council during July 2010.

According to sources, the investigative agency wanted the transcripts of the replies made by Yeddyurappa on the steps taken by his government to curb illegal mining.

The move, it is learnt, is part of the investigative agency’s efforts to check the veracity of the statements made by Yeddyurappa before it, earlier this month.

The CBI is investigating Yeddyurappa’s role in illegal mining in the State, on the direction of the Supreme Court.

The Council had witnessed a detailed discussion on illegal mining, lasting more than 10 hours and spread over two days.

The Opposition had targeted Yeddyurappa for not taking steps to check illegal mining.

Rejecting the demand of the Opposition for a CBI probe, Yeddyurappa had listed out the names of several Congress leaders alleged to have been involved in illegal mining. JD(S) leader M C Nanaiah had alleged that illegal mining was continuing during Yeddyurappa’s tenure and had even furnished relevant documents, sources said.
