Mangaluru: Incessant rains through out the night resulted in rain water inundating homes, shops, establishments, in Mangaluru's Idya near Suratkal, Mission street, Rao and Rao circle, Koppara Hitlu and surrounding areas in wee hours on Friday.

With IMD announcing issuing orange alert, district administration declared a holiday for Anganwadis, primary, high schools, government schools, aided and private educational institutions on Friday.

DYFI district President B K Imthiyaz said Mangaluru City Corporation's unscientific works had triggered flash floods in many areas. Incident commanders appointed by MCC and district administration to tackle rain related grievances from public did not respond, a resident of Idya complained. Imthiyaz said they had shifted many residents in flooded areas to safety.
