Inaugurating the three-day Karnataka State Science and Technology Conference - 2010, he said economic advisers to the Prime Minister kept harping on the country reaching a GDP growth of 10 per cent in the next three years, but that will not last if prominence is not given to science and education.

He pointed out that by 2022, lakhs of students would be completing their schooling and the country will require around 3,000 universities and 20,000 colleges.
