The inscription was found at a paddy field near the house belonging to farmers Hemalatha B Shetty and Vittal Shetty.

The inscription’s surface is in the shape of a horse shoe. Its base measures 9x5 inches. It also comprises an elevated Shivalinga, sun and moon.

Though the inscription is in Kannada language and script, there are two Tulu words. There are only three lines in the inscription.

It deals with the donation of a piece of land in Koyalaguli by one Kundaya to one Bora in Pingala samvatsara. It is said the inscription will help study the historical background of the name Kojaguli.

“The words Pirungo and Koyaguli in the second line are Tulu words. The script of the inscription indicates that it belongs to 15th century,” said MSRS College Shirva faculty Prof T Murugeshi in a release.
