Interstate thief held, valuables worth Rs 60L recovered

The Vijayapura rural police arrested an inter-state thief and recovered from him valuables worth Rs 60 lakh and Rs 59,370 in cash.

The suspect has been identified as Mayaram Lakhayani Nishad, 26, a native of Dhundwa in Jaisingapur taluk of Sultanapur district, Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Superintendent of Police D Prakash said the police were on routine patrolling near Shivanagi bus stand on Wednesday, when they noticed a man fleeing on sighting their jeep. They caught him after a brief chase and discovered upon questioning him that he was a notorious interstate thief involved in a number of theft cases in  Karnataka, Mumbai and other places.

The articles recovered include diamond-studded ornaments, gold ornaments, silver coins, idols and silver blocks, a camera and wrist watches, all valued at Rs 60 lakh.Nishad also disclosed he had snatched a gold chain from a woman at the Amogha Siddheshwar Jatre in Vijayapura taluk seven months ago.
