A deep-tech facility named after Sir M Visvesvaraya will be among new sector-specific industrial parks that will be developed, Industries Minister M B Patil announced on Saturday ahead of next week’s Invest Karnataka summit.

According to Patil, the proposed sector-specific plans include an Advanced Pharma Park at Srinivaspur (Kolar), a solar cell manufacturing plant and food park in Vijayapura, a drone park at Chitradurga, a mega logistics park at Hanumanthapur near Dobbspet and electric vehicle clusters in Chikkaballapur and Dharwad.

The deep-tech park will come up at Jangamakote in Shidlaghatta, Chikkaballapur.

Patil said a 200-acre startup park near the Hubballi airport would be announced at Invest Karnataka. This will accommodate over 400 startups. The solar cell manufacturing and agro-tech (food) park will come up on a 1,200-acre space at Tidagundi in Vijayapura, the minister said.

Patil announced that the first set of Invest Karnataka awards will be given to recognise 14 outstanding industries for their contributions to the state’s economy.

The Sunrise Sector awards will honour excellence in Aerospace & Defence (public and private), Automobile/Electric Vehicles and Biotech & Life Sciences. Additionally, special awards will recognize ‘Highest One-Time Investment’ and ‘Pioneers in Global R&D’.

The first-ever Small & Medium Enterprises awards will be presented to over 35 enterprises that have significantly contributed to industrial growth, innovation and employment in Karnataka, Patil said, adding that district-specific awards and recognition for outstanding women entrepreneurs and sector excellence would also be given.
