In a written reply to the Legislative Assembly on investments in the State in the last two years, Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani stated that Bangalore Urban attracted 14 mega projects each over Rs 50 crore investment, 95 projects each with an investment between Rs 3 to 50 crore and 4,612 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).
The Minister was replying to a question raised by Congress member A Manju.
In all, the State has given approval for 29,043 MSMEs, State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) has approved 574 projects and State High Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) has approved 126 projects ever since the BJP came to power, he said.
To another question, Nirani said KIADB has acquired 8,373 acre land for the formation of industrial areas in the State over the last two years.
Food park
The Government, Nirani said the State-owned Food Karnataka Limited has proposed setting up a food park at Ittangihala village in Bijapur district. It is proposed to establish citrus, banana, pomegranate, grape (for wine manufacturing) and other processing industries in this food park, he said in a written reply.
The process of selection of private entrepreneurs for the park is on. The, estimated to cost Rs 23.84 crore, is expected to start functioning in the next 30 months.
No takers
Nirani also said the State government has decided to drop the engineering sector special economic zone in Shimoga as there were no takers.
The entire extent of 250 acres earlier proposed for SEZ has been allotted to the Bangalore-based Shahi Export Pvt Ltd for setting up of facilities for weaving, textile and ready-made garments with an investment of Rs 533.19 crore, he added.
