Mysuru: State opposition leader R Ashoka on Tuesday reacted to the Udayagiri police station attack issue and asked if the area falls under Pakistan and whether Ambedkar’s Constitution does not apply there.

Addressing media persons on Tuesday after visiting the Udayagiri police station in Mysuru and holding a discussion with the officials concerned regarding the stone pelting there, Ashoka said the incident is an example of the deterioration of the governance and how bad the law and order situation is in Karnataka.

Blame game

“Now minister K N Rajanna is blaming the police department. If he feels that the police department is not efficient and not required, let them close the police stations. Is there a different law for Udayagiri? The situation was grave, as thousands of people had gathered to attack the police station. There were chances of damaging the police station building,” Ashoka said.

“The release of the accused in the Hubballi riot case has encouraged anti-social elements in Karnataka. It is like an assurance by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to miscreants to do whatever they want to and that he will bail them out. Thus, the law and order situation has collapsed in Karnataka.

Disinterested ministers

In reply to a question, Ashoka said Home Minister G Parameshwara is disinterested in his portfolio.

"Many ministers in Karnataka have a similar mindset. Instead of being a ‘Nidderamaiah’ (sleeping man), Siddaramaiah should focus on administration. He might be in office till November 15. So, he should do some good work till then, at least,” he added.

Ashoka said the objective of him and his team travelling to Udayagiri police station is to demand the arrest of the miscreants, who attacked the police station with stones. “This incident is shameful. If police stations are not safe, how will the police safeguard the society?” he asked.
