Belagavi: AICC General Secretary in charge of State Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ convention of Congress organised on January 21 (Tuesday) as part of Gandhi Bharat celebrations to commemorate centenary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Congress Session held here in 1924 during the freedom movement will give new message to the country to fight against fascist forces like BJP.
Surjewala told reporters at the airport here on Friday that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were among the top Congress leadership attending the convention.
The Congress Session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi a centenary ago had led to the country gaining independence from the British and its centenary anniversary will become the voice of the country to fight against discrimination, harassment of oppressed classes and attack on the constitution, he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a statement in the Parliament on December 17, 2024, insulted the architect of the constitution Dr B R Ambedkar and those who followed his ideology. BJP has been attacking the constitution and the gap between rich and poor has been widening. The Constitution was being bulldozed. We need to follow the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar and fight against the fascist BJP. After the convention here, we have organised another convention at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, the birthplace of Dr Ambedkar on January 27, Surjewala stated.
BJP insulted Dr Ambedkar and the rights of Dalits, backward classes, women and youth were snatched. A new revolution was needed by following the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar. Convention in Belagavi will give new direction to the country, he expressed.
He denied that the Congress party has issued notice to Public Works Department and District Incharge Minister Satish Jarkiholi regarding the comments made. Notices have not been issued to anybody by anyone and it is mere rumours which were mongerred by the BJP.
He also stated that there were no talks in the party regarding the change of KPCC President D K Shivakumar and he has been arriving in the city to oversee the preparations for the convention.
