Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ convention to mark centenary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Congress Session held here during 1924 has been organised to make the people about how relevant Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar were and the need to protect our constitution which protects us.

Siddaramaiah told reporters here on Monday that the events to mark centenary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Congress Session had been scheduled on December 26 and 27. "We had conduction extended Congress Working Committee meeting, but the convention had to be postponed as former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh had passed away on December 26," he said.

More than 2 lakh Congress party workers and leaders will take part in the convention organised to recall Mahatma Gandhi assuming charge as Congress president here, the CM added.

Regarding Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi alleging that Congress using Dr Ambedkar’s name after insulting him, Siddaramaiah said, "The union minister was unaware of history and statements made by Golwalkar and Savarkar when constitution was brought into effect. Mahatma Gandhi statue unveiling was government programme and convention Congress programme. BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal too was unaware of history and has been making accusations."
