Folk experts Dr S P Padmaprasad and Dr K R Sandhya Reddy have been selected for the Dr B S Gaddagimath and Dr G S Paramshivaiah awards respectively. These awards, conferred on those rendering yeoman service in the field of folk arts, carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a memento each.
Academy chairman, Go Ru Channabasappa, released the list of awardees at a press conference on Saturday. The award presentation ceremony will be held at Mudhol in Bagalkot district in March.

Folklore university
Channabasappa demanded that the State government should earmark at least Rs 100 crore for the proposed folklore university.
The Academy had identified a couple of sites at Gajendragad and Haveri, as suitable for setting up the university. The government had to take the final decision, he said.
The Academy would hold the All India folklore convention in Bidar between April 23 and 25. Folk troupes from different parts of the country would take part in the convention.
