Mysore-Chamarajnagar District Central Co-operative Society has already selected the government Taluk hospital compound, Yalandur to open the drug unit soon.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, B Nagaraj, managing director of Janatha Bazaar said that as 30 per cent of the profit earned is from its first and only drug unit working 24 hours on Dhavanthri road here, it is now turning its focus to start two more drug units that will be beneficial for both the co-operative society and common people.
“The first drug unit gives a five per cent concession on every drug sold. The upcoming medical stores also will benefit the common people,” Nagaraj added.
Turnover
The daily turnover of the drug unit on Dhavanthri road is Rs one lakh. Even though it sells many other essentials such as grocery, stationary and dress materials through more than one hundred consumer stores in the city, the only drug unit earns Rs 13,000 as profit per day that comes to 30 per cent of the total profit of the bazaar.
Established under Karnataka State Co-operative Society Act, 1959, it has been serving the people of the city for many decades by ensuring the daily needs with affordable price through wholesale stores.
At the same time, it also runs retail stores in the city. There are three units of Janata Bazaar retail stores in the city at Brindavan extension, Kuvempunagar and the head office on Ashoka road.
It brings the daily home needs from many parts of the state in bulk and facilitates sale to the general public.
Janata Bazaar turned to drug business to help society to get adequate medicines at cheaper rate. The drug unit now buys drugs from the private agencies in the city.
